NOTICE OF A SPECIAL MEETING

The DeSales Community Urban Redevelopment Corporation (DCDC), the East Walnut Hills community development corporation, has entered into a contract to purchase the entire Hoffman School site from 3060 Durrell Investors LLC, the current owners of the property.

The purchase would include both the historic school building parcel on Durrell Ave. and the playground parcel on Woodburn Ave.

To pay for the purchase of the property, DCDC (with the approval of the East Walnut Hills Assembly Board) will be asking the City for an allocation from the City’s EWH TIF fund to cover the cost of the purchase.

DCDC is talking with potential development partners (of the entire site) about converting the Hoffman School building into apartments.

The East Walnut Hills Assembly Board is calling a Special Meeting of the East Walnut Hills Assembly (EWHA) members on Wed 22 Jul at 7pm (the Meeting to take place in the St Francis DeSales School cafeteria at 1602 Madison Rd.) to discuss the purchase and the proposed EWH TIF allocation and potentially vote to approve the EWH TIF fund allocation.

This meeting is open to all.

The architecturally significant Hoffman School was built in 1922 in the Jacobethan Revival Style by the city’s most prominent architectural firm, Hannaford and Sons. It has been a wayfinder and place maker for the broader community of Evanston, East Walnut Hills and Walnut Hills for over 100 years.

DCDC is committed to preserving the Hoffman School building.

Over the past year, Kingsley + Co. has actively engaged in constructive dialogues with local stakeholders to determine the most beneficial, long-term trajectory for the property.
