A feast for the senses and an experience beyond music, this performance explores the creation myth of Prometheus as a meditation on artistic invention itself.
Edgar Varèse’s Déserts and Scriabin’s Symphony No. 5, Prometheus: The Poem of Fire were revolutionary “firsts”: Déserts was the first composition to incorporate recorded tape as an integral part of the music — evoking both physical and inner landscapes, it invites listeners to rethink their perception of being on Earth and in their body, and confront life’s essential mysteries. Scriabin’s Prometheus was the first to attempt to score not only sound but sight, creating a symphony of sound and a symphony of light, utilizing an instrument of his own creation — the light organ.
Through this music that was created to shape what we hear, what we see and what we feel, the concert ignites a multi-sensory world where color becomes sound, sound becomes vision and creation unfolds before your eyes.
