The great Jorge Ben Jor's 1969 Brazillian classic 'Take It Easy My Brother Charles' has become a much loved live favourite whenever Bobby Alu and Fernando Aragones (Animal Ventura) cross paths on the tour trail. The musical delight between the friends is magical, and best summed up with the lyric "Eu canto a alegria" - I sing of joy.

With summer approaching, it felt like just the right time to capture a recording of the ode to joy and take it on the road for a 10-date spin across NSW, QLD and WA.

::Bobby Alu::
If you ask Australian/Samoan singer, ukulele strummer and drummer Bobby Alu what his music sounds like, he’ll tell you how he hopes it makes you feel: like you have your favourite drink in hand, sipping as the sun sets on a warm evening that’s laden with the promise of adventure. In an ideal world, he’d follow summer around the earth, in his endless quest to nail that feeling in his songs that ride the groove spectrum from Polynesian folk, through roots, reggae, harmony laden soul to tropical pop.

With a reputation as a world-class performer – touring as Xavier Rudd’s percussionist for five years, and supporting the likes of Xavier, John Butler Trio and Trevor Hall across North America and Europe – Bobby’s most recent album Keep It Tropical debuted at #3 on the ARIA Australian Albums Chart. Though it’s primarily a mission statement: Take naps. Be generous. Go on adventures. Have gratitude. Enjoy the little things. Strive to be better. Don’t be so serious. Love. Laugh a lot. Eat the odd donut. Swim in the ocean. Enjoy the sunshine and warmth.

::Animal Ventura::
Animal Ventura is the brainchild of Byron Bay-based singer-songwriter Fernando Aragones. Growing up playing punk and reggae in noisy garage bands in Southern Brazil, Aragones ventured to Australia where the eclectic sounds of the Sydney music scene beckoned.

What sets Animal Ventura apart is a unique ability to effortlessly fuse funk rhythms from his native South America with the coastal indie folk of Australian shores, combined with the new wave of live looping and his thirst for solid neat beats. To top it off his soothing and timeless vocals hold strength and passion in their delivery.

::Odette Mercy & her Soul Atomics::
6-piece soul act Odette Mercy & Her Soul Atomics might have been one of Perth’s best-kept secrets. Emerging from the flat, dry landscape of the West Coast scene, this band is like a gritted-up old Stax record come to life. Suave and smooth, the rhythm section chugs effortlessly under infectious horn lines, while frontwoman Odette Mercy reels you in with impressive vocal swagger and disarming, unguarded storytelling.
With 2 nominations for best RnB/soul act at the National Live Music Awards alongside Ngaiire, Mojo Juju and Kira Puru, plus national tours, festival appearances and radio play, the lid is now being lifted on this band’s potential.

::Reuben De Melo::
Reuben de Melo is an Australian singer-songwriter and the winner of The Voice Australia 2024. With roots from Goa, India, Reuben creates an uplifting mix of indie folk, reggae, country, and pop, all delivered with a soulful voice and genuine authenticity. His heartfelt songwriting and powerful performances have captured audiences across Australia.

Reuben’s path to success has been anything but conventional. A former FIFO worker in Western Australia’s mining sector and a devoted father of three, he exchanged his steel-capped boots for a guitar and never looked back. Prior to his television debut, he amassed over 7 million streams on Spotify and sold out headline shows throughout WA.
