Join us this Spring Equinox for a 20 mile Shropshire Hills Classic including all the big boys. Not to be missed!
The Stretton Skyline Walk is a roughly 31 km / ~19–20 mile circular hiking route around the hills and ridges encircling the town of Church Stretton / All Stretton in the Shropshire Hills.
It uses ridges on both sides of the valley created by the geological fault-line known as the Stretton Fault.
The route takes in some of the area’s most iconic hills and high points: Long Mynd, Ragleth Hill, the Hope Bowdler Hills, Caer Caradoc and The Lawley.
The walk is based on an old runners’ route — originally a fell-running/skyrunning course — rather than a leisurely stroll.
Tickets for this event cost £20.00. This payment is non-refundable. It will only be refunded in the event of a non-weather related cancellation. *Tickets/spaces for this walk/event are pre booked and pre paid, please don't just turn up on the day with cash*
Total ascent is substantial: around 1,262 m (≈ 4,140 ft) over the course of the circuit.
Although none of the hills are enormous (many under ~500 m), there are several steep climbs and descents — the combined effect makes the walk tough.
Highlights -
Long Mynd: sprawling heath and moorland plateau — wild, open and atmospheric. The “skyline” includes the high ridge of the Mynd.
Caer Caradoc: a steep-sided hill rising above the valley, crowned by an Iron Age / late Bronze Age hill fort. From the summit you get sweeping panoramic views across the surrounding hills and valleys.
Ragleth Hill, Hope Bowdler Hills, The Lawley — a mix of ridges and hills giving variety to the terrain, ridge-line walking and views across different parts of the Shropshire Hills.
The geology and geography tied to the Stretton Fault give a sense of dramatic landscape — ridges rising sharply, valleys dropping, and a terrain shaped by ancient geological forces.
In short: you get a taste of the very best of the Shropshire Hills — moorland, ridges, dramatic hills and summits, sweeping views, and a sense of remoteness and natural beauty.
Please bring lots of layers, waterproofs etc the weather can be very interchangeable on these hills in March.
Please also bring a hearty lunch, snacks and enough water to sustain you.
The walk starts and finishes at the Lion Meadow car park, next to co op, in Church Stretton, SY6 6BQ
