We’re honoured to be bringing The Southerner back again in May 2026, offering a limited series of special journeys between Christchurch and Dunedin.

Running daily from 22 to 25 May 2026, The Southerner traces the historic Main South Line through the Canterbury Plains, along the Otago coastline, and into the heart of Dunedin.

Travellers can choose between Scenic Class for a relaxed and comfortable journey, or Scenic Plus, which elevates the experience with premium seating, regional dining, and hosted service.

🚂 The Southerner & Taieri Gorge Rail Experience
A true classic. Ride The Southerner south, then continue deep into the Taieri Gorge on a historic rail journey before returning to Dunedin.
