Hosted in Te Waipounamu by He Waka Tapu, we are excited to welcome you all to Oraka Ararau 2026.Together, we will continue to build on the momentum from previous Oraka Ararau Hui, exploring the impacts of alcohol and drug harm for Māori, and identifying Māori solutions to reduce harm within our communities. In 2023, we gathered in Rotorua under the theme Oraka Ararau me ōna piki, ōna heke, ōna tutetute. In Waitangi, we centred Ko mātou ngā tino rangatira o tēnei whenua, and our most recent hui in Tairāwhiti honoured ngā taonga tuku iho.In 2026, we are to be guided by the kōrero of Te Hereka Waka, the sacred mooring place where many waka have found safe harbour. As we come together, we anchor ourselves in a shared responsibility and vision, learning to navigate the tides of change and move forward along the many pathways to oraka/oranga.
