Simurgh Music is a collective of musicians based in Ōtautahi, dedicated to the rich musical traditions of Persia and the surrounding Middle Eastern regions. These musicians will be heavily involved in Sounds of Salaam, an upcoming festival at The Arts Centre on August 24. In preparation for the event, Simurgh’s traditional Iranian ensemble will come in to rehearse a vibrant set of folk songs from across Iran. Their performance will feature an array of beautiful instruments, including the santoor, setar, tar, tanbur, oud, tonbak, and daf.
