Water would have been carried in a wooden pail, lighting primarily by rushlights with just a few candles and cooking on an open fire. Fiona Houston attempted to live in similar conditions for a year and wrote about it month by month for The Herald, following that with a book, The Garden Cottage Diaries.Dressed in 18th century style as she was for that year, Fiona will give a first-hand illustrated account of these daily realities bringing with her some artifacts of the time.Fiona Houston is a fascinating and compelling speaker whose year-long experience of living in 18th century conditions, denying herself the comforts and familiarities of modern life, is remarkable, educative and enlightening.
