A Live, Illustrated Valentine’s Salon from Chickamauga

This Valentine’s season, join Southern Shadows for a special illustrated historical program exploring love, longing, and remembrance during the American Civil War. Through real love letters written by both Union and Confederate soldiers—alongside poetry and songs inspired by wartime separation—this intimate salon examines how people courted, married, mourned, and carried on in the shadow of war.

This is a seated, indoor program designed for both in-person and virtual audiences. Letters and historical images will be projected and read aloud, creating a reflective and romantic atmosphere perfect for Valentine’s week. A brief, optional writing activity inspired by 19th-century love letters will be offered at the conclusion.
