Myers, who also perform the roles of Dr. and Mrs. King. The story imagines the Kings reuniting for a date in eternity during which they reflect on their lives as a couple, as civil rights pioneers, and the legacy of their work. Dr. King particularly wonders about his influence among current generations living on the thoroughfares named in his honor, the majority of which are in communities with predominately African-American populations. King is especially emotional that frequent references to “I have a dream” without seeing fruits of his vision has made the phrase a cliche.“It’s almost as if all they know about me is that speech, and Memphis,” he wonders to his spouse, the latter in reference to the site of his assassination in 1968.Mrs. King’s rejoinders allow him, and the audience, to explore many of Rev. King’s lesser noted speeches that have gained poignancy during recent presidential administrations.
