About One City
When children have access to quality music instruction, the positive impact can be life-changing. Unfortunately, too many children never get a chance to play music because of limited opportunities. VanderCook's One City program is changing this situation. One City offers free music lessons, rehearsals and instruments to students in grades 5 - 8 from Bronzeville and the surrounding neighborhoods on Chicago's South side. One City pays tribute to our Chicago Bronzeville jazz roots by offering instruments from the jazz band family, including saxophone, trumpet, trombone, percussion (drums), bass and piano. The program runs on Saturdays throughout the school year. Any student who completes the program through 8th grade will keep and own the instrument to play in high school and beyond.
