We would love to start May by gathering in community and share some poems, some conversation, share snacks & write letters to ourselves, to strangers, to loved ones. We'll bring the stationery, the prompts, and everything you may need, you bring yourself <3 We invite you to join us for an in-person gathering by the steps at Montrose by the bird sanctuary to scream, sing, co-create rituals, write letters for the future.Date & Time: May 9th, Friday - 5.30 pm to 7.30 pm CSTCurators: This will be curated by the Board Development Committee at the Chicago Poetry Center: Darshita Jain, Sarah Free & Shivani Gupta, with support from Joy Young. Please write to us at shivani@poetrycenter.org if that is a barrier for you in any way.Note:This is open to all, you do not have to be a poet/writer to attend.We will mask any time we are indoors or in close proximity.This is a respectful space, no racism/sexism/hate speech will be tolerated.-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------THE LONG:Poems For The Get-Through was a series inspired by Andrew Gibson's wonderful poem Angels Of The Get-Through, which was the inaugural poem for our Poem-a-day series through April (National Poetry Month).We, the Chicago Poetry Center board felt we needed this and invited you in - to gently bring in the spring, end the winter, take pause, be angry, be hopeful, grieve, laugh, get weird - and most of all, to do it together, in community. Everyday of April, folks received a poem from the curator along with a letter from them. The month featured 3 curators, 3 themes, 30 poems, and a whole lot of vulnerability.Theme 1: Despair - What is the opposite of despair? It is not joy, it is not happiness. What we lean towards is often whimsy. Often play. Often community.Theme 2: Love - Love poems for more than romantic love. Pet love, sky love, bug love, love for doors shaped a certain way, love for language, love for freedoms, love for finding them, love for finding love.Theme 3: Tomorrow - Tomorrow could look like so many things, and we entered it bolder, brighter and more capable of coping with it. A love letter, albeit an appalled, angry-hope, despairing, straining one - to the world, to ourselves and everything in between.Fundraising Goal: Our fundraising goal from this series is $2,500 to together SPONSOR ONE CLASSROOM.
