Artist Reset Sessions are a free wellness series designed to support the mental, emotional, and creative health of musicians, artists, and cultural workers. In this session, led by Randy Basden of The Still Point Collective, will guide you through a Holotropic Breating session. 

Holotropic Breathing is based on ancient breath techniques that release stress and trauma. ‘Holotropic’ means movement towards the whole, as in the whole person. The procedure helps us get into a state in which we’re better in touch with communication with our body and our subconscious. This is done without anyone telling us what to work on. Trauma and stress stored in the body are released in the process, which is safe and effective. 

The process consists of alternating rapid breathing and long exhales, allowing the body to release stored negative energy. The technique was based on observing how animals release trauma, say after a fight or being chased by a predator. Animals may seek privacy after this, engage in deep, rapid breathing, followed by a shaking off of the traumatic energy. I’ve participated in and observed dozens of sessions. Participants typically report a powerful sense of release, with no one being worse for the wear!
