- **Event Description**: Help us plant new hedgerow on Bristol Water's site bordering Chew Valley Lake.About this EventJoin us to plant a new hedgerow in the beautiful Chew Valley countryside!Chew Stoke Pumping Station was purchased by Bristol Water over 70 years ago and the land has been managed for nature since. Bordering the Mendip Hills, the area is a fantastic spot for wildlife, with 13 of the 18 species of bat present in the UK found locally at Chew Valley Lake.We will be planting a new hedgerow bordering the wildflower meadow, helping to connect up exisiting mature woodland with a new wildlife corridor. Over the last 3 years we have achieved 5.85km of our target, which wouldn’t have been possible without the fantastic work of volunteers. This winter our Hedgerow Heroes project continues to grow bigger and better, now taking place across the counties of South Gloucestershire, Bath and North East Somerset, and North Somerset.Planting and restoring hedgerows can prevent soil erosion, increase biodiversity by providing wildlife habitat for many species of birds, insects, butterflies and small mammals and can increase the overall aesthetic appeal of a landscape.We still need your help!Register as a volunteer to recieve details on upcoming activities, and join us to help improve hedgerows across the South West.
