As Explorers Club Fellows and Boston Sea Rovers Associate Members, the Stayers are renowned for their dedication to sharing the wonders of shipwrecks, animal behavior, and remote dive destinations around the globe. With nearly five decades of diving experience, they have discovered historic shipwrecks, co-authored three books, produced hundreds of multimedia presentations, directed international film festivals, and presented their work across North America. Their stunning footage has been featured on major networks worldwide, bringing history and adventure vividly to life.
Captain Jim Stayer is a U.S. Coast Guard–licensed captain whose career began on the Great Lakes, where he and his wife Pat successfully operated a popular charter boat business. With a passion for exploration and storytelling, Jim went on to co-author three books, produce award-winning multimedia presentations, and share his diving adventures at major film festivals and conferences across North America. His expertise behind the camera and at the helm has brought countless divers to some of the world’s most remote and historic underwater sites.
Pat Stayer, a proud inductee of the Women Divers Hall of Fame, is a pioneering diver, filmmaker, and explorer with nearly five decades of experience. She has documented shipwrecks, marine life, and remote dive destinations across the globe, producing footage that has been featured on major television networks. As an Explorers Club Fellow and Boston Sea Rovers Associate Member, Pat has dedicated her career to education and outreach, using film and storytelling to inspire new generations of divers and adventurers. Together with Jim, she has transformed a lifetime of exploration into a legacy of discovery, inspiring divers everywhere to seek out the mysteries that lie beneath the surface.
