Hi Birders,
Time to clean up our most visited birding spot! Now that the ice has melted and the snow has gone away, the roadsides and riverbanks are sadly teeming with litter.
Richmond Audubon Society (RAS) committed to Dutch Gap Conservation Area several years ago as an 'Adopt a Highway' sponsor.
We are overdue.
Please come to Dutch Gap visitor parking lot on:
SUNDAY, March 1, 2026 at 9:30 am.
We'll stay until we leave.
Wear boots and clothes you don't mind 'trashing'. Bring work gloves and loppers.
We (RAS) have safety vests and pick-up tools and bags.
If you have a picker-upper and a vest please bring them. I'm hoping we run out due to high participation.
Litter is unsightly, but more importantly it threatens and endangers our wildlife through ingestion, traps and entanglement.
The focus of the clean-up will be the road along the marsh/observation platforms, areas in front of the platforms by the marsh, the boardwalk and the visitor parking lot.
RSVP would be helpful so I have an idea of how many tetanus shots to have on hand.
More to come...great way to start the month of March
Thanks for your help.
Yakkity, yak!
