August Program: Native Tree & Shrubs Recommendations with Brian Hale

Join us on August 21, 2025, to discover the best trees and shrubs for this area, so you can order with confidence from this year’s Native Tree and Shrub Sale. Longtime Wild Ones member and Native Tree & Shrub Sale Coordinator Brian Hale will discuss the different plants in the tree and shrub sale, how best to use them, and situations to avoid.

Brian Hale has been a gardener most of his life, growing vegetables, flowers, and bonsai trees. He added native plants about 25 years ago, and has volunteered for the Boone County Conservation District and other groups ever since. He leads wildflower walks, teaches Master Naturalist classes, and runs the Wild Ones Tree and Shrub Sale in the fall. Brian and his wife Ruth live on two mostly-wooded acres near Oregon.

The Native Tree & Shrub Sale Brochure will be available online in mid-August to download. The last day to order is September 24, 2025. Plant pick-up is October 3 and 4, 2025.
