Music Recital by T.M.Krishna - Urur Olcott Kuppam Vizha
The Urur-Olcott Kuppam Festival hopes to heal art, and help art heal by opening art and artists to new audiences and different environments.
Music, theatre and the arts are meant to be bridges connecting cultures, civilisations and other artificial boundaries that divide people. But often they fall prey to the same divisions created by man. As arts get more and more esoteric, with artists and the audience seeking comfort in the homogeneity of class, caste, race or creed, it begins to lose its ability to communicate and build bridges across the vast and wondrous diversity of people and places. The art and the artists stop growing.
The Urur-Olcott Kuppam Vizha is conceived to heal art, and help art heal by opening art and artists to new audiences and different environments.
The vizha made its debut in January 2015 at the Urur-Olcott kuppam in Chennai with the waves and the gentle breeze providing the perfect foil to the music and dance performances that included Karnatic music, Kattaikuttu, Paraiattam and Bharathnatyam.
This year (2016) too the vizha promises to carry on the spirit and fervour of the previous year.
Although the vizha will remain Urur-Olcott's brainchild in every sense, the recent flood in Chennai has prompted the need to extend the vizha's spirit beyond the kuppam.
The second edition of the vizha will be held at two more venues, apart from the Ellaimman Koil grounds of Urur Olcott Kuppam, Besant Nagar, Chennai.
Join us THIS SATURDAY EVENING for a Carnatic Music recital by T.M. KRISHNA & GROUP, as part of the Urur Olcott Kuppam Vizha.
The concert will be held on the beach, open-air, at the Urur Kuppam - at the Northern end of Besant Nagar / Elliots beach (Opposite Spaces, near Thalapakkati Restaurant).
There are also plans to have cart vendors, other community events before and after the concert. Come enjoy a fun, breezy, musical evening by the beach.
(This is an outreach event for the Urur Olcott Kuppam Vizha, happening end of this month, more details on Saturday after the concert!)
