Richmond:
Richmond possesses a timeless charm more akin to a village than a town.
The tranquil Richmond boasts historic pubs, upscale restaurants, independent shops, historic houses and an enormous park. Explore this pretty suburb and enjoy some of the many things to do in Richmond.
Henry VII named Richmond after his favourite Earldom, Richmond in Yorkshire, and the gateway of his magnificent Palace, favoured by Elizabeth I, still remains. Highlights include the remains of Richmond Palace, Richmond Bridge – the oldest surviving bridge on the Thames & the Poppy Factory.
Poppy Factory:
If you choose to visit The Poppy Factory, you’ll be exploring the home of Remembrance in Richmond and discover the story of the people behind the poppies and remembrance wreaths. Established in the aftermath of the First World War, The Poppy Factory developed into a community of wounded and injured veterans and their families. You will discover how veterans still make Royal and regimental wreaths by hand.
Visits are 90 minutes long. This includes a 30-minute presentation and 1 hour self-guided time where you’ll have the opportunity to explore the exhibition & have a go at poppy-making.
Today, The Poppy Factory is a national charity that supports veterans with health conditions on their journey into all kinds of employment. By booking a visit, you‘ll help more veterans to rebuild their lives.
