Salons were held in homes where artists, intellectuals and influential people met to discuss art, politics, philosophy, etc. A soiree was an elegant, intimate, evening social gathering featuring sophisticated, stylish and relaxed mingling and conversation, where food and drinks were served in a home or special venue.
