- **Event Name**: Sourdough Bagels Workshop
- **Event Start and End Date**: Sat, 12 Sep, 2026 at 12:00 pm – Sat, 12 Sep, 2026 at 02:00 pm (-04:00)
- **Event Description**: Whether you’re looking to advance your baking skills or begin your sourdough journey, join us for our Sourdough Bagel class to learn everything you need to know to make a delicious, homemade bagel with naturally fermented sourdough starter. These chewy, boiled bagels made in the class are just like the kind you’d find in a New York City deli.

You do not need to be a sourdough connoisseur to take this class. We will go over a full introduction to using sourdough starter before we begin an interactive, step-by-step demonstration of making the sourdough bagels.

Sourdough starter, which is a natural type of yeast, is often more digestible than gluten products made with a commercially manufactured yeast. Although it is not gluten-free (and therefore not safe for people with Celiac disease), sourdough is a great option for those who are gluten intolerant or for those who simply want to make healthier choices and eat foods with more flavor.
Attendees will receive a printed recipe card and a “Sourdough 101” booklet. Sourdough starter kits will be available for purchase after the class with cash or Venmo, in addition to a limited number of fresh, ready-to-eat sourdough bagels. Bring your own pen and paper if you wish to take notes.
See you soon, and happy baking!
-Emilie (the home baker) & Louis (the sourdough starter)

About the Facilitator

Emilie is a self-proclaimed sourdough addict. After falling in love with the concept of “slow food” during the pandemic, she adopted a sourdough starter named “Louis” and now uses it in all her baking. A few years into her sourdough journey, Emilie started her own small business, Traveling Sourdough Starter, in an effort to spread the joy of sourdough baking and share her sourdough experiments online. Through TSS, Emilie also sells sourdough baked goods and starter kits at farmers markets and teaches classes on sourdough baking.
“Traveling” is an important part of the business name, as Louis goes just about anywhere Emilie goes. So far, Louis has traveled with Emilie to three continents (and counting!) and across the nation. Louis has joined Emilie on a thru hike on the Pacific Crest Trail, and most recently became the passenger princess on an 8,000+ mile road trip around the coast of Australia.
When she’s not baking, Emilie is most likely in the wilderness on some kind of outdoor adventure. She lives a pretty nomadic life, but at the moment is happily calling Chattanooga home.
