Glenn Hughes – The Voice of Rock
Glenn Hughes is a vocalist, bass guitarist, and songwriter whose unmistakable blend of hard rock, soul, and funk has made him one of the most distinctive voices in modern music. Born in Cannock, England, he absorbed influences ranging from British rock to Motown and Stax—shaping the powerful, soulful style that earned him the nickname “The Voice of Rock.” (A title even the KLF used on their hit “America: What Time Is Love?”)

Early Career: Trapeze & Deep Purple
Hughes first rose to prominence in the early ’70s with Trapeze, releasing the influential albums Medusa and You Are the Music…We’re Just the Band.
In 1973, he joined Deep Purple, helping reinvent the band during the Burn, Stormbringer, and Come Taste the Band era. The group toured the world, headlined the historic 1974 California Jam, and became one of rock’s defining live acts.

Solo Work & Collaborations
After Purple disbanded in 1976, Hughes launched a prolific solo career beginning with Play Me Out (1977) and worked with countless artists, both credited and uncredited.
A major creative chapter came through his long-running collaborations with Tony Iommi, beginning with Seventh Star (1986) and continuing with The 1996 DEP Sessions and Fused.
His partnership with Chad Smith of the Red Hot Chili Peppers produced standout albums like Soul Mover and Music for the Divine.

Black Country Communion & Later Projects
In 2010, Hughes co-founded the supergroup Black Country Communion alongside Joe Bonamassa, Jason Bonham, and Derek Sherinian. Their releases—including BCCIV and 2024’s V—have earned global critical acclaim.
He has also toured extensively with projects such as Glenn Hughes Performs Classic Deep Purple Live, The Dead Daisies, and the Music of Cream anniversary tours.

Recent Years
Between 2021–2024, Hughes continued touring worldwide, released two albums with The Dead Daisies, and reunited with Black Country Communion.
In 2025, he returns to Europe for orchestra-based rock concerts, appears on new releases with SatchVai and Robbie Williams, and launches “The Chosen Years” tour—his first solo tour in nearly eight years—accompanied by a brand-new solo album.

The Legacy
Across five decades, Glenn Hughes has remained a powerhouse vocalist, a dynamic performer, and a creatively fearless artist. From Deep Purple to Black Country Communion to his expansive solo catalog, one thing is certain:

The Voice of Rock never left the building.
