Explore your voice through music & storytelling and become part of a new musical workAbout this EventWe're looking for young people who stammer (under 18) to join a free creative workshop in Chatham, hosted by composer and stammerer Jamie Hamilton. No prior experience needed!In a small group, you will work alongside Jamie and other professional musicians through word games, rhythm exercises, collective reading, and the creation of new texts — exercises drawn from Jamie's own creative practice. The workshops are designed to create a space where you can come together with other young stammerers and explore your voice differently, and where dysfluency is treated as a legitimate part of creative expression. The workshop will be recorded, and your voice will be woven into a new piece of music by Jamie.This workshop is part of A Mouth In Search Of A Voice, a new music and multimedia project by Hamilton and the contemporary classical group Phaedra Ensemble. The work passes language and narrative through stammered voices — disrupting and reimagining them through dysfluency — and draws on ideas of coastlines, flow, and unreliable narration.The final work will be premiered by Jamie and Phaedra Ensemble in October 2026 with live performances at the Historic Dockyard Chatham and Arnolfini Bristol, combining the workshop recordings with live music and video.Workshops have already been delivered to 40 participants aged 16+ in Bristol, London, and online. This new workshop is tailored specifically to young people. No experience is needed — just curiosity and a willingness to experiment with your voice.The workshop lasts approximately 2½ hours, with breaks. You'll be working in a small, artist-led group, in a welcoming, stammering-friendly environment.
