- **Event Description**: To honor the recent passing of Frederick Wiseman (1930 – 2026), the celebrated director of Titicut Follies and dozens of other documentaries, we have selected three films to screen on April 4 that best showcase his work: Ballet (1995), In Jackson Heights (2015) and Welfare (1975).

Screenings on April 4 are at 12:30pm, 4pm, and 7:30pm.

Wiseman created a unique and revelatory history of American institutions with his direct, unnarrated and in-depth approach. Rejecting cinéma vérité, which he felt was just a “pompous French term that has absolutely no meaning,” his filmmaking style developed from his equally gifted instinct as an editor. He spent the majority of each production editing the material, trying to find a rhythm for the film.  He was known to call his films “reality fictions.” Wiseman was awarded an Honorary Academy Award in 2016.
