# Event Details - **Event Name**: Soccer Teams & Skills Competition - **Event Start and End Date**: Sun, 26 Apr, 2026 at 09:00 am (-05:00) - **Event Description**: Soccer (aka football) is the world’s most popular sport! Athletes have the opportunity to compete on teams of 7 including a goalie, as well as in Individual Skills Competition which develops basic soccer skills. As in all Special Olympics sports, athletes are grouped into competition divisions according to ability level, age and gender when appropriate. Athletes in Illinois who participate in Soccer compete locally in Region Qualifying events. Top finishers are then eligible to advance to state championships at the Summer Games held in Normal in June. Competition Information Registration and check-in will begin at 8:15 am. Opening Ceremonies will begin immediately following the first round of 9am games. For rules regarding all Special Olympics Competitions and Sports, click here! Volunteer Information Volunteer registration for this event is now available at the link below! If you do not have an account in the new Center of Excellence (COE) Volunteer Portal, you can easily create one. Then your account will be active and ready for all future Special Olympics Illinois events! All volunteers will receive a t-shirt and snack pack. Volunteer duties include scorekeeping, escorting skills athletes to their various stations, assisting with the awards ceremonies. Volunteers do not need to have soccer specific knowledge to attend this event. Please note that the end time may vary based on how quickly we get through the schedule.
