You are all cordially invited to the sickle cell intervention summit and a book launch on the 1st September 2018 in chatham kent. September is sickle cell awareness month. However, most people are unaware of sickle cell disease unless they have a family member or a friend that is affected by the disease. No one can catch sickle cell anaemia just like the flu. It is inherited from both parent. It's not contagious. The truth is that yes they can live a productive lifestyle with work, family, activities etc. However, since it's a very complicated illness and needs to be managed with so much care by using holistic approach in physical care, social Care, emotional care, family Involvement and financial care with sickle cell disease require comprehensive care including preventive interventions, pain management, hydroxyurea, and blood transfusions. Further, complications of transfusions like iron overload are common and have significant consequences like cirrhosis, heart failure, and death.
Due to the complex and disabling nature of sickle cell disease, appropriate ambulatory management is critical to avoid acute pain and vasoocclusive episodes and hospitalizations.

A health summit on sickle cell disease will be great to bring health care professionals on board to discuss the implications, health experiences and the way forward in medical advancement on Sickle cell disease, including carers, suffererers from the ailment and the public. Guest speakers will be included on question and answer session, fundraising activity, raffle, food and drinks will be served, exhibitions stalls. Official launching of sickle cell intervention, updated report on Sickle cell intervention organisation. Also the book launching of "Practical Guideline on Public Health Intervention in Africa" will be unveil by the mayor of Medway council.
