2026 marks the 100th anniversary of the legendary Route 66, America’s beloved “Mother Road,” officially established on November 11, 1926. To celebrate this milestone, let’s hit the historic Illinois stretch with a fun, relaxed group cruise!
You’re invited to an at-your-own-pace cruise—perfect for bringing friends, classic cars, motorcycles, or any ride that loves the open road. We’ll follow the original alignments, soak up the nostalgia, and enjoy plenty of photo stops along the way.
Event Details:
• Date & Start Time: Sunday , May 31, 2026 – Meet at 8:00 AM
• Start Point: Chain of Rocks Bridge Illinois side ( Chouteau Island ) the historic Route 66 crossing over the Mississippi River, now a scenic pedestrian bridge with stunning views). Arrive early for group photos, bridge walks, and mingling.
• Route: Head east entirely on Historic Route 66. Options include:
• The classic Route 4 alignment through charming Carlinville (great small-town vibes and photo ops).
• Or the smoother west frontage road for an easy, scenic drive.�Illinois signage is excellent—Route 66 shields and markers are everywhere, so it’s nearly impossible to get lost!
• Pace: Casual and flexible. Stop as often as you like for attractions, vintage signs, diners, or just to enjoy the history and scenery.
• End Point: Route 66 Motorheads Bar, Grill, Museum & Entertainment Complex in Springfield, Illinois—a must-visit spot with its classic car theme, great food, cold drinks, museum exhibits, and pure Mother Road spirit. Arrive whenever you’re ready for lunch, socializing, and toasting the centennial!
• After the Cruise: Keep the adventure going—continue east on Route 66 if you want more miles, or return home via an alternate historic alignment. The road is yours!
