First Communion Training will be on March 29th from 10:15 – 11:45 in-person. If there is bad weather and worship gets cancelled, we will do our training via ZOOM.
MCV specifically invites children in 3rd, 4th and 5th grades who are not currently receiving First Communion to receive training, along with a parent or grandparent. If you feel your child is ready prior to 3rd grade, they are welcome to join us as well. Some of you will be receiving our formal letter because you have already requested for your child to receive first communion earlier. We let the parent(s) determine which year best works for their child and family. And it is a privilege to be part of this faith marker.
First Communion will be received either on Easter Sunday, April 5th or on Holy Wednesday, April 1st. Details will be discussed during our training time how that will work for families.
This is an opportunity for you to work with your child in preparation for receiving the Sacrament of Holy Communion. If this date does not work out for your family, you are also welcome to wait until next year or visit with Pastor Meg about other options.
We will be reviewing the Old Testament story of the Passover, as well as reading the account of the last supper. Together we will learn about Jesus’ great love for you and your child and the Lutheran understanding of Holy Communion.
There is an enclosed introductory activity that you and your child will need to do ahead of time. Have the completed homework with you for class. There will also be homework after the lesson – to make a Communion Poster or bake communion bread. The posters will be hung in our sanctuary and the bread we will used during worship.
