Youth Chorus Fundraising Dinner and Awards Night

Youth Chorus Fundraising Dinner and Awards Night

The Confederation Centre Youth Chorus will hold its 42nd annual fundraising dinner and awards presentation on Thursday, April 4, beginning at 6:00 p.m. with a reception at Mavor’s Bistro & Bar.

Linda Dunning will emcee the event. Following dinner in Memorial Hall, the Youth Chorus will perform selections by Vivaldi, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Marta Keen and Hans Leo Hassler.

The highlight of the evening will be the presentation of 19 awards to Chorus members for qualities of loyalty, enthusiasm, singing ability, self-discipline, progress, musical potential and leadership. Numerous well-known local citizens who support the work of the Confederation Centre’s adult and youth choirs provided the awards, some of which have been given out since the days of the Boys’ Choir in the 1970s.

The Confederation Centre Youth Chorus provides Island youth, aged 8 to 20, with a unique opportunity to develop their musical skills at home and abroad. Throughout its history, the chorus has performed in many concerts at the Confederation Centre and at community events. The Chorus has recorded two CDs and have toured extensively, travelling to Italy, France, Belgium, Great Britain, Washington D.C., New York City, Florida, British Columbia, Quebec, Ontario, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia.

Tickets for the dinner are $70 per person, $30 of which is tax deductible, and may be obtained from members of the Chorus or by calling Donald Fraser at (902) 628-6144. Proceeds from this event are used to assist the Centre’s choral music program, which is sponsored by Maritime Electric. Confederation Centre of the Arts
