- **Event Start and End Date**: Sat, 04 Apr, 2026 at 01:00 pm – Sat, 04 Apr, 2026 at 03:00 pm (-03:00)
- **Event Description**: Got Blues Matinee & Jam is hosted by Got Blues (Chris Roumbanis and friends Mike Robicheau & Alan Dowling). Running every Saturday September to June since 2009. The 1st set features a special guest each show. The 2nd set is always an electric blues jam (just show up and put your name on the list).

John B. Main is a Halifax-based pianist, guitarist, and vocalist, specializing in blues, rockabilly, and old-time country. He is also a singer-songwriter.

John was born in Lenoir, North Carolina, on August 22nd, 1996. He and his family moved up to Halifax, Nova Scotia, in July of 1998, shortly before his second birthday. Growing up, he heard the music of bands and artists such as Eric Clapton, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Dire Straits, Booker T. & the M.G.s, and The Blues Brothers.

John was born with a rare brain condition called polymicrogyria (PMG for short). For him, the condition caused nonverbal learning disorder (NVLD), which is a form of neurodivergence. Notably, it also caused epilepsy and partial paralysis on the left side of his body. John also suffers from generalized anxiety disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorder. He is an advocate for disability and mental health awareness, and he hopes to see a better future for those with disabilities and mental health issues.

At 14 years old, John discovered Joe Murphy and the Water Street Blues Band, a Halifax-based blues band, which changed the trajectory of his life. He knew that blues was his true musical love. He started discovering, listening to, and admiring artists such as Muddy Waters, B.B. King, Albert King, Albert Collins, and many, many others. Over the next few years, he discovered a love of rockabilly and rock'n'roll music as well, listening to artists such as Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, Fats Domino, Little Richard, Chuck Berry, and, of course, Elvis Presley.

Today, John plays with his own band and in other bands. The most notable of these bands is J.A.G (with singer-songwriter, bassist, and guitarist George Wolf, and drummer Alex Brushett). He is a proud member of the classic country band, Michelle Mock and the Moccasins.

He has two albums and a single available for purchase. His second album, "Blues on Main Street," is available on CD and on streaming platforms such as Apple Music and Spotify. His first album, "I've Got The Blues," is only available on CD. His new, two-song single, "Murder On My Mind," recorded at Sun Studio in Memphis, Tennessee, was released on February 14th, 2026. This newest release is exclusively on online streaming platforms, such as Apple Music, Spotify, iTunes, iHeartRadio and more.

In 2022 and 2023, John competed in, and won, the East Coast Blues Society's Maritimes to Memphis blues challenge - the first time being with Joe Murphy and the Water Street Blues Band, the second time being with his own band - and both times, he got to compete in the International Blues Challenge (2023 and 2024), held in Memphis Tennessee by the Blues Foundation, as a reward.

In the fall of 2023, John was hired as part of Joe Murphy and the Water Street Blues Band to back up Texas blues singer Trudy Lynn for two shows, one at the 21st annual Sackville Fall Fair in Sackville, New Brunswick, and another at Bearly's House of Blues & Ribs in Halifax.

John appreciates his audience and his fans. Talking to him, you'll realize immediately that he is a shy and quiet person, but he loves to play music for people and to engage with his audience. If you ever happen to hear blues and rockabilly music coming from a bar or restaurant in Nova Scotia, be sure to stop by. It just might be John, and he would love to play some tunes for you!

This is John's first visit to the matinee. We hope you all come out and see how talented he is. We are pumped.

This is an all ages event as long as minors are accompanied by an adult. There is no cover charge. They pass the hat
