We want to feel more alive in our relationships. We want connections that reveal us to ourselves, deepen our understanding of others, and open new possibilities for how we live and relate together.Yet for all the importance relationships have in our lives, few of us ever intentionally practice them.For years, I immersed myself in personal growth through books, workshops, meditation, and reflection. Much of it was genuinely helpful.And yet I kept encountering the same question: if these insights matter so much, why is it often hardest to live them in my relationships?Why did the wisdom or state I could access while sitting on a meditation cushion, attending a workshop, or reading a book so often seem to disappear when another human being entered the picture?That question eventually led me to my first Relateful session.For the first time, I experienced what my partner later called "mindfulness come to life." Not awareness in isolation, but awareness in relationship.A practice that invited me to see myself more clearly, become more curious about the realities others were living in, and discover what emerges when people meet with honesty, presence, and care.Relating Lab grew out of that question. Each month, we'll come together to explore the art of relating through the practice of Relatefulness. Rather than discussing relationships from a distance, we'll use the relationships already present in the room as our laboratory.Why Come?You don't need any background in this kind of work. You might be drawn to Relating Lab if you:Want relationships that feel more honest and alive, not just smoother or easierHave done some kind of inner work, whether that's therapy, faith, recovery, journaling, or meditation, and are curious how that actually shows up when you're with peopleWant to understand yourself better, and get more curious about what it's like to be someone elseLearn better by doing than by being told what to doWant to grow without turning yourself or other people into a problem to be fixedAre simply curious, even if none of this is familiar yetWhether you've never heard the word "Relatefulness" before or you've been practicing for years, you're welcome here.What We'll DoEach month we'll explore a different aspect of human connection, not through theory, but through direct experience.In one recent gathering, the room moved into grief together, grief about how absurd and isolating it can feel just to exist. And somehow, inside that grief, we found ourselves laughing. Connected in our isolation. Aware of the heaviness, and somehow no longer only inside it. That's often what this practice opens up: moments where our awareness can hold what's happening and also see past it, at the same time.Some evenings will invite you to slow down and notice your own experience. Others will invite curiosity about what someone else is experiencing. Often it's both, woven together in real time.I'll offer practices, observations, and questions drawn from years of facilitating this work, not as answers to follow, but as invitations to explore.Each gathering takes on a life of its own, because each group is unique. Some are playful. Some are challenging. Some are deeply moving. But the invitation stays the same: get curious about yourself, curious about others, and curious about what becomes possible when people meet with honesty, presence, and care.What Not To ExpectThis is not a therapy session or group healing experience, although healing can occur. It's a group exploration of truth, love, and awareness, created by the people who are present.We don't promise comfort, breakthroughs, resolution, or specific outcomes. Instead, we create conditions where awareness, curiosity, honesty, and care can emerge in relationship.You will never be required to share beyond your boundaries or participate in any exercise.We welcome both challenge and nourishment as valuable parts of being human.And lastly, we value honest expression, and we also stay attentive to its impact on others. This is a space for mindful connection, not expression at any cost.
