Join teaching artist Pamela Wilson for a walk through the Library's 250 Garden and learn about the past and future of flax as a crop. We'll explore the steps required to process the flax into usable linen. Pamela will bring tools and samples from her own garden to demonstrate how to unlock the potential of flax and linen. We'll discuss this fiber's historic role in global textile culture and how fibersheds today are re-discovering how this drought-tolerant, flood-tolerant and pollinator-friendly plant fits into a roster of climate-beneficial healthy building-materials for the construction and textile industries.

This project is made in part possible by a grant from the Association for Rural & Small Libraries through the generosity of the Manton Foundation.

A Vermont Reads 2026 event from the Vermont Humanities Council. Vermont Reads 2026 is presented with support from the Trout Lily Foundation and the Jack & Dorothy Byrne Foundation.
