- **Event Name**: Art & Conversations of Freedom: A ReKINdling Our Spark Art Workshop.
- **Event Start and End Date**: Sat, 03 Oct, 2026 at 02:00 pm – Sat, 03 Oct, 2026 at 04:00 pm (-04:00)
- **Event Description**: An interdisciplinary artivist approach of conversation, theater, and collage helps participants explore ideas of power, agency, and empathy.About this EventDESCRIPTIONJoin interdisciplinary artivist, janet e. dandridge, for Art & Conversations of Freedom. This two-hour workshop is great for adults, parents, and their children (age 12+).Art & Conversations of Freedom (ACF) gives you an opportunity to converse about freedom in an agreed upon open-dialogue environment. We agree to actively listen, we agree to debate kindly, and we agree to create together. ACF provides insights on how to ‘do something’ to negate hate and uplift love. Through pointed conversation, theater-based activity and artistic inquiry, the ideas of power and agency are examined. The goal is that when you leave the ACF experience, you have a new sense of understanding and empathy, and practical tools for productive communication and civic engagement.Participants will find that conversing about freedom and collectively creating art that reflects their desired freedoms gives them specific questions to ask themselves and others regarding our roles in liberatory practices. Pondering other perspectives of freedom sparks inquiry, which can lead to discovery, thereby shifting one’s daily routine. Using collage and art installation is a welcoming method for exchange within a group outside of your network. This workshop will guide participants in a fluid manner and provide useful life tools through conversation, activation, and implementation.Clemmons Family Farm will provide all of the materials for your collage art that you will take home with you, including canvas boards, textiles and paper, scissors, glue, and fine-tip markers.*********************************************************TICKETSAdmission is FREE but advance registration with a ticket is required for admission, with one ticket per person. For 60 consecutive years, they never sold a single acre due to their firm belief in land as an important asset for African-Americans to build equity and legacy. In 2019, a group of Clemmons family members, friends and advisers co-founded the 501c3 nonprofit organization- Clemmons Family Farm, Inc.- to preserve and steward the farm under a 20-year lease and to continue the community-building work, farming, and celebration of African-American history, art and culture, that Jack and Lydia led on their farm for nearly 60 years. In 2023, through a private fundraising campaign, Clemmons Family Farm, Inc. purchased the historic Clemmons farm from the Clemmons elders when they were 100 years old. The Farm was purchased at its appraised fair market value and we conserved 122 acres under a land conservation easement to protect the beautiful land and natural resources, and to build a community around cherishing a remarkable African American legacy. This community arts program celebrating the life and legacy of Dr. Jackson J.W. Clemmons is closely tied to Clemmons Family Farm's organizational mission to:PRESERVE and maintain the historic Clemmons farm in Charlotte, Vermont as an educational prototype, and a model for preserving African-American owned agricultural land, cultural and heritage assets in the U.S.EMPOWER a growing network of Vermont's artists, including those who bear the cultures of the African diaspora, with opportunities for professional development, advocacy, visibility, networking, paid engagements, collective healing, and a safe haven for creativity that helps them to thrive;BUILD a loving multicultural community around African-American/African diaspora history, arts and culture.********************************************************************** https://cdn-az.allevents.in/events5/banners/104f3320-a479-11f1-8345-8160f1306c66-rimg-w1200-h323-dcf8f8f8-gmir.jpg This FREE community program is the final artist-led engagement in Clemmons Family Farm’s 2026 ReKINdling our Spark community arts event series made possible in part through a Vermont Community Foundation Arts & Social Cohesion grant and public donations.************************************************* https://cdn-az.allevents.in/events6/banners/107f91f0-a479-11f1-8345-8160f1306c66-rimg-w1200-h304-dcf8f8f8-gmir.jpg The kind donations we receive from the general public help us steward the Clemmons Farm and make it available for beautiful community programs like this one.
