- **Event Description**: 2026 Beaver Island Artist in Residence, Alexis Lamb, will perform selections from her original compositions as well as her residency experiences. The program is free and open to the public.

SeedKeepers, a 501(c)3 environmental nonprofit organization has selected Dr. Alexis Lamb as their 2026 Beaver Island Artist in Residence. SeedKeepers Artist-in-Residence Program is designed to foster the creation of artistic works which celebrate Beaver Island’s natural wonders while encouraging their conservation and preservation. The 10 day residency at SeedKeepers Apple Blossom Farm, requires participants to share their experience and creative work with the public via two public presentations. Artists are also required to donate work inspired by the residency to the SeedKeepers' permanent collection. These works will be viewable to the public via in person in exhibits and via the website.

Dr. Lamb is a composer, percussionist, educator, festival founder, and arts administrator whose work aims to foster natural, historical, and societal relationships. She earned a Doctor of Musical Arts in Composition at the University of Michigan, a Master of Music in Composition at the Yale School of Music, and two Bachelor of Music degrees in Music Education and Percussion Performance from Northern Illinois University. This Fall, Lamb will be joining the faculty at Eastern Michigan University as an Assistant Professor of Music.

As a composer, Lamb has collaborated with numerous ensembles and individuals, including Third Coast Percussion, Aizuri Quartet, Opera Omaha, Albany (NY) Symphony, Camilla Tassi, Indiana University Percussion Ensemble, Matt Albert, Yale Philharmonia, and the Northern Illinois University World Steelband.

“SeedKeepers selects their resident artists, not only for the caliber of their artistic works, but also for their demonstrated commitment to fostering environmental protection and awareness, stated Rebecca Glotfelty, President of SeedKeepers, “Lamb has demonstrated a lifelong dedication to conservation through her academic work and volunteer activities.”

Lambs' doctoral dissertation, “Resonant Gratitude,” explored humans’ musical relationship to our natural soundscapes conducting field research in diverse ecosystems, from the remote wilderness of Southeast Alaska to the Zabalo River Wilderness Quiet Park in Ecuador, the Mississippi River watershed, and Indiana Dunes National Park. Field research involved listening, improvising, recording, and learning from the local community. Lamb commented, 'These experiences continue to inform my work as a musician and listener, reminding me that true coexistence with the natural world begins with deep listening, respect, and an openness to what the Living Earth teaches us.”

Currently, Lambs' artistic interests involve exploring the relationships between our human-made music and the music of our natural world. This ongoing fascination has led to many projects, including concert length works for chamber orchestra with the living Earth, educational curricula and activities for all ages and abilities, and the development of Refugia Festival, a multidisciplinary event that advocates for environmental conservation through sound.

Lamb is also the Founder and Artistic Director for Refugia Festival, an event that produces outdoor, ecosystem-specific events that emphasize the relationships between the arts and our living Earth. Refugia Festival is built on the idea that if people become aware of the benefits of a healthy soundscape, which often includes breathing cleaner air and hearing a more diverse array of birds, insects, and other animals, they may choose to adjust their daily habits to nurture the soundscape and, in turn, themselves.

Lamb's 10-day residency will take place in August. She will share her residency experience and her work during two free public presentations:
