Learn about the biology, ecology, conservation, and management of Oregon’s fisheries, as well as the role they play in Oregon coastal communities. Teachers will spend three days in and around Charleston learning from commercial fishermen, researchers, Indigenous voices, resource managers, seafood processors and other industry professionals.This workshop will increase understanding of coastal habitats, life histories of coastal species, economic importance , historical use, new innovations, and community connections. Did you know fishing involves biology, economics, history, engineering, and sometimes even the arts? Learn how to use this local resource and industry in your lesson plans.  Practice different classroom and field trip activities incorporating STEM and learn about career pathways. Participants will receive:$300 stipends for their time, plus ticket reimbursementlunches and snacks during the daylessons and activitieslodging available for those living outside of the areaThis training will be based at the Boathouse on the campus of the University of Oregon's Institute of Marine Biology in Charleston, OR. We will spend time outdoors and traveling to see and hear about different parts of the fishing industry.
