About the event

Matt Mullins & The Bringdowns The HawtThorns (Nashville) Nathan Bess
MATT MULLINS & THE BRINGDOWNS
MMBD are an Appalachian Rock band that have found a niche all their own. The stories in their songs are almost as diverse as the influences you hear in the music. Fueled by a driving rhythm section made up of drummer Dylan McInturff and bassist Bob Campion, Stuart Hill creates sonic tapestries with his guitar that will leave you in awe. Add to that the lyrical prowess of raspy voiced singer/guitarist Matt Mullins and you have what the group feels to be the most honest music they have ever collectively created.

THE HAWTTHORNS
KP and Johnny Hawthorn, have had celebrated careers that started in LA’s singer-songwriter and Alt-Country scenes. Between the two, they have hundreds of recordings heard on network and cable TV, and film. KP co-founded LA’s CALICO the band while Johnny fronted his own band and played in legacy acts, Toad the Wet Sprocket and Everclear. Their common ground has been the starting point for a sum greater than it’s parts, an inspired combination of songwriting, vocals and guitar work.

There has been no shortage of praise. PopMatters declared, “Dynamite duo who aim to pull up their roots, stick by their guns and bring back the sounds of the Laurel Canyon in the 1960’s, the British invaders of the ’70’s and the cosmic cowboys still twirling through time and space” The Alternate Root stated “a perfect blend of melody and magic, one that incorporates the sunny sounds of classic California Rock blended with the rich resonant sounds of today’s Americana musical environs” and Americana Highways effused “The HawtThorns make songwriting look easy.”

NATHAN BESS
Hailing from the hills of Charleston, West Virginia, Nathan Bess writes songs that cut to the bone of Appalachian life. A full-time firefighter, his music explores the struggles, stories, and resilience of his home state, capturing the tension between hardship and hope that defines the region, following in the footsteps of Appalachian country music stalwarts like Tyler Childers and Sturgill Simpson.

In 2024, Bess burst onto the scene with debut EP, part 1, and its sequel, part 2. Highlighted by breakout track “Somethin’ About The Smell,” his catalog has amassed over 5 million streams and marked him as a rising star in the genre. Onstage, early returns have been just as promising, as he’s earned the adoration of audiences across the Ohio Valley and east coast with his soul-stirring vocals and unflinching honesty. Now focused on the next chapter in his career, Bess looks to continue the tradition of American storytelling as one of the most promising new artists in country music.
