- **Event Name**: Battle of Sullivan’s Island Lecture with Historian Doug MacIntyre
- **Event Start and End Date**: Thu, 25 Jun, 2026 at 04:00 pm
- **Event Description**: In commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence and the founding of our nation, The Charleston Museum is pleased to host a series of lectures, each focusing on a different aspect of Revolutionary War history.

Join historian and scholar Doug MacIntyre on June 25 and discover how the Patriots won one of the most decisive and surprising victories of the American Revolution at Charleston on June 28, 1776, six days before the Declaration of Independence.

The Battle of Sullivan’s Island was a major engagement involving more than 10,000 British and American soldiers, sailors, and support personnel. The pivotal victory proved the patriots’ devotion and ability and relieved pressure on the Continental Congress. Left with no base for operations in the southern states, the British suspended their southern strategy and allowed the south to remain relatively calm under patriot control for the next two and a half years.

The battle will be reconstructed to reveal how overmatched Americans defeated the British army and navy. Little-known details in letters, dispatches, reports, and maps of the era will provide fresh insights into the fascinating personalities and fortunate events that shaped the patriot victory.

Registration is encouraged. This lecture is FREE for Members and FREE for the public.
