An intimate and touching show with music by Jerry Bock and Sheldon Harnick (Fiddler on the Roof) and book by Joe Masteroff (Cabaret), She Loves Me is considered by many to be the most charming musical ever written—a warm romantic comedy with an endearing innocence and a touch of old-world elegance. Based on the Miklós László play Parfumerie, it also inspired the beloved film You’ve Got Mail starring Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks.
Please prepare a Broadway-style showtune to sing and bring sheet music with you. An accompanist will be provided. Please dress in comfortable clothes and shoes that you can easily move in.
Roles (with approx ages):
Ladislav Sipos (40+) Baritone – Family man, always afraid of losing his job. Very agreeable to everyone, a friend to all.
Arpad Laszlo (18-30) Tenor – Maraczek's delivery boy. A clear joy for life. He is committed to his job and is ambitious for more.
Ilona Ritter (30-50) Mezzo-Soprano – An employee at Maraczek's. Experienced in life and love, but still a bit naive. World weary. Tired of being used by men.
Steven Kodaly (30-50) High Baritone/Tenor – A handsome lady's man, and he knows it. While a shallow cad, he's personable and well liked. Gets away with a lot.
George Nowack (30-40) Baritone – An established employee at Maraczek's. A kind, hopeless romantic who enjoys literature and art. Seeks a kind woman to share his interests.
Mr. Maraczek (50+) Baritone – Owner of Maraczek's. Successful businessman who runs a tight shop. He likes his employees and his employees like him, until he suspects his wife of having an affair.
Amalia Balash (25-35) Soprano – The eager new employee at Maraczek's Parfumerie. Attractive, bright, charming, and strong willed. Loves literature, art, and ice cream.
Headwaiter (25+) Tenor/Bari-Tenor – proud headwaiter of a restaurant with a romantic atmosphere. Unsuccessfully rules the restaurant with an iron fist. Comedic.
Ensemble – will play store customers, restaurant patrons, townspeople, etc.
