This will be a self-guided tour to external areas as identified on the diagrammatic plan below. Dan Cruickshank, Architectural Historian and Chair of Trustees of the Spitalfields Trust, added: “The Archbishop's Palace at Charing in Kent is a marvellous architectural survival, of intense historic interest, embedded - in almost secret manner - within one of the county’s most attractive villages. The nation can boast few historic buildings comparable to the palace at Charing, and arguably none so bewitchingly beautiful, picturesque - and with such potential for careful repair, conservation and adaptation - all of which can give these ancient structures new lives.”This will be an external event, so please do wrap up warmly.Visitor InformationWe take the health and safety of the public, our neighbours, visitors, staff, and volunteers seriously, and for everyone’s protection we would be grateful if you can familiarise yourself with the below information before visiting:• The site entrance is on Market Place, Charing, TN27 0LP(What Three Words: ///packages.breakfast.brain)• The site is a 10-minute walk from Charing train station• There is no vehicular or pedestrian access from Pett Lane.• There is no parking available on site• If driving, please park in the public car park outside of the main site entrance gate on Market Place. If this car park is full, it is understood there is further public parking available on Surgery Close (just off Station Road), or at the Charing Station itself.• Please ensure that you park considerately, do not block any entrances/exits, prevent access to the Church, or prevent egress and access for any other parked vehicles. We wish to limit impact to our neighbours and community, and ask for your help in this matter.• There are no toilet facilities on site, but there are public toilets locally on Old Ashford Road (TN27 0JG) which are open 7 days a week between 8am & 5pm, and are owned and managed by Charing Parish Council.General health and safety matters:It should be noted that Charing Archbishop's Palace is in a poor state of repair, and currently on the Historic England 'Heritage at Risk' Register. Whilst we are delighted to enable public access to view the site externally, we kindly ask you to think considerately and act safely when around these historic buildings.• Please stay within the defined open access areas as per the map included within this event listing;• Please wear appropriate clothing at all times – this should include robust shoes, full length trousers, and long sleeved tops.
