Talk by Paul Lyle
'Game of Stones : a tale of two islands'
Some aspects of the geology of Ireland and Crete
Doors open 5.00pm
Talk begins about 5.15pm
The geological history of Ireland gives some strong and perhaps surprising pointers to the geological future of Crete and explains the earthquakes and volcanic eruptions of the eastern Mediterranean area. The popularity of the series Game of Thrones means that as well as the Giant’s Causeway, visitors to Ireland now want to see for themselves the King’s Road and the Iron Islands.
Geologist Paul Lyle, an acknowledged expert in the unique geology of Northern Ireland and with more than a passing interest in that of Crete, is visiting the island and takes this opportunity to give a talk to us.
