Join us for an Earth Day clean-up on Saturday, April 25th! Volunteers will be removing litter along the Bear Creek Greenway in Southern Oregon. Join an Earth Day stewardship event in Central Point, Medford, Phoenix, Talent, or Ashland this April. Find the event closest to you below.
There are 9 check-in/out booth locations where participants can check-in and get clean-up supplies and materials, and turn in clean-up items when they are done for the day. Locations will have trash pick-up unless otherwise specified. Please register prior to the event online at bearcreekstewards.org.
1. Pine Street, Central Point. Sponsored by the OSU Land Stewards. Parking is available at the gravel parking area north of Pine Street and east of Peninger Road (across from the Pilot Travel Center). There will be trash pick-up, plant watering, and nesting box and interpretive signage cleaning.
2. Bear Creek/Rogue River Confluence – Meet at Pine Street, Central Point. Sponsored by Rogue Riverkeeper and Nate’s Rogue Adventures. Meet at Pine Street in Central Point. Parking is available at the gravel parking area north of Pine Street and east of Peninger Road (across from the Pilot Gas station). Participants will carpool to the site to reduce the number of vehicles. Participants will collect trash from the banks of Bear Creek, around the confluence with the Rogue, and along the Rogue below Bear Creek. A raft will be available to shuttle across the river. Sturdy footwear and ability to walk up and down slopes and rough surfaces is required. If you have them, please wear waders, high-rise rubber boots, and bring a small fishing net to help scoop up trash. *Participants may also be on the lookout for invasive aquatic plants (water primrose and parrotfeather).*
3. McAndrews Road, Medford. Sponsored by Stream Smart: A Rogue Basin Clean Water Project. The McAndrews location is centrally-located in Medford and easily accessible for pedestrians and cyclists alike near McAndrews Road and Biddle Road. A check-in booth is located near the Bear Creek Greenway and south of McAndrews Road. We have exclusive permission to use Lithia Motor’s Pre-owned Outlet parking lot. It is located at 1405 N Riverside Ave, across the street from their main dealership.
4. Hawthorne Park, Medford. Sponsored by the City of Medford. Parking is available at Hawthorne Park. It is recommended to park at the Main St. lot near the dog park. The check-in booth is located between the two dog parks.
5. Alba Drive, Medford. Sponsored by Medford Food Co-op. Parking is available at the Little League fields on Alba Drive, just off Barnett Road. The check-in booth is located near the entrance of the parking lot, just beyond Dairy Queen.
6. Coyote Trails Nature Center, Medford. Sponsored by Rogue River Valley Sewer Services. There will be trash pick-up and pollinator garden maintenance task at this location. If you have them, please bring work gloves and gardening tools such as loppers, spade, or shovel.
7. Blue Heron Park, Phoenix. Sponsored by Save The Phoenix Wetland and Pollinator Project Rogue Valley. There will be pollinator garden maintenance tasks, invasive plant removal in wetland areas (blackberry grubbing and cutting), and trash pick-up at this location. If you plan on assisting with pollinator garden maintenance or invasive plant removal and you have work gloves and loppers or digging tools such as mattock, pick, or spade - please bring them.
8. Lynn Newbry Park, Talent. Sponsored by the City of Talent. Event check-in will be adjacent to the Bear Creek Greenway, look for gazebo with sign-in area. There will be invasive plant removal (blackberry grubbing and cutting), graffiti removal, and trash pick-up at this location. New this year will be maintenance of newly added trees, led by our Urban Forestry Committee. If you have them, please bring work gloves and loppers or digging tools such as mattock, pick, or spade.
9. Wrangler's Arena, Ashland/Talent. Sponsored by Southern Oregon Geocaching. Parking and a check-in booth is available in the gravel area just north of Exit 19, off of S Pacific Hwy and south of Talent Ave.
