Helene Cincebeaux is the foremost expert and collector of kroje (traditional folk dress) in the United States. NCSML was proud to showcase many of her pieces in 2022 during the Crowning Glory exhibit. For more than four decades, Helene and her mother collected unique, one-of-a-kind headdresses from Moravia and Slovakia. Helene will discuss the history, cultural significance, and stories behind her collection in the U.S. following the Parade of Kroje.
Jozef Ivaška is a singer, composer, and entertainer who hosts a number of TV shows throughout Central and Eastern Europe and has recorded over 20 CDs during his illustrious career. His repertoire includes a mix of traditional and pop songs.
Jozef (Dodo) Ivaška, Jr. is a Slovak operatic tenor who graduated from the State Conservatory of Music (Voice) in Bratislava and completed his education as an opera singer in the Academy of Arts in Banska Bystrica. He attended the Academy of Young Singers at the Mariinsky Theatre, St. Petersburg, Russia. His first major role was Vasek in Smetana’s Bartered Bride in the State Opera in Banska Bystrica. Following his debut, he sang opera in different roles (Pedrillo in Abduction from Seraglio, Jan Janicky in Beggar Student, Freddy in My Fair Lady, Schoolmaster Cunning Little Vixen, Monostatos in Magic Flute, Don Basilio in Marriage of Figaro). Jozef Ivaska Jr. performed in a number of opera houses, such as Grosses Festspielhaus in Salzburg, Jugendstiltheater in Vienna, the Amato Opera in New York, and the State Opera in Banska Bystrica. He sang regular at the Isny Oper Festival in Isny, Germany. He taught music at the Children’s Czech and Slovak School in Astoria, New York.
