Megan Dupree is a bodyworker and movement therapist from the Philly-area who has worked with dancers all over the world.

In this workshop, Megan will teach us how to create comfortable, pain-free movement by mapping our body to what we feel.

——————

Many of our frustrations with coordination, posture, spinning, partner connection, and movement quality AREN’T about EFFORT OR TALENT- but about how efficiently the brain stem and nervous system is organizing movement!

Dancing (and life!) demand that the brain process balance, timing, spatial awareness, and interpersonal cues all at once, which can feel overwhelming when foundational neurosensory systems aren’t fully integrated.

At the heart of this work is the neurosensory-neuromotor circuit, rooted in the brainstem and early developmental reflexes that help us relate to gravity, coordinate movement, and understand our bodies in space. These reflexes begin forming before birth and develop through early movement like crawling, rolling, and ground contact—processes that can be disrupted by birth circumstances, modern lifestyles, stress, or trauma.

Nobel Prize–winning scientist Ardem Patapoutian suggested, “proprioception is perhaps the physical aspect of human consciousness.” If you struggle with conscious control of your movement or body, this workshop is for you.

In this workshop we will learn how:
	•	The brain builds complex skills on basic “primary software” called reflexes
	•	These reflexes affect movement coordination, balance, digestion, breathing, cognition, emotional regulation, learning and mental planning
	•	Dancers rely on just 3.5% of the body’s sensory surface—the soles of the feet— yet receive information from 66 joints in the feet to make all movement decisions in gravity
	•	When reflexes aren’t well integrated, people may feel clumsy, fatigued, frustrated, or stuck despite practice

This workshop focuses specifically on the centering reflex and gravity reflex. The centering reflex helps the brain organize the torso, limbs, cross-body movement, and thought-to-movement planning, improving coordination and communication with others. The gravity reflex helps the brain understand where the ground is in all directions, allowing for stable posture, smoother movement, reduced pain, and greater ease—both physically and socially. Challenges seen in ADHD, ASD, hypermobility, and hypomobility often reflect difficulties with these systems, which can also be affected by stress and trauma. By addressing these foundational principles, the workshop aims to make movement learning—and dancing—far easier, less stressful, and more enjoyable.
