The culmination of a year-long residency, ‘Wild and Waiting’ things is an album inspired by traditional Manx folk tales and based around the concept of an enchanted forest, featuring the voices of some familiar figures from Manx folklore. With each song inspired by a specific tale and set in an enchanted version of our landscape, Alice’s reimagining of classic Manx tales seeks to align the magic of folklore with the real-life magic of the natural world.

As both a visual artist and a songwriter, Alice’s practice has been shaped by our Island and its stories. Her main goal this year was to encourage collaboration and connection with our Island and with each other, encouraging creatives to work together to make something that celebrated our landscape, our language, our stories, and the shared sense of belonging they can offer us. Bringing together the arts, nature, and community has been at the very heart of her residency, from her own body of work to the outdoor workshops, live music events, and collaborative projects she has organised this year.

The evening will feature special guests performances from Matt Kelly and Mike and Ian (The Ballaghs) and an exclusive live debut of Alice’s album ‘Wild and Waiting Things’ in its entirety.

A further aspect of the evening will be a pop-up exhibition showcasing the results of some of the collaborative artwork made at various Manx Wildlife Trust events throughout the summer, including an opportunity to view the postcards created as part of ‘O Vannin Veg Veen’, a community postcard project. Meaning ‘Dear Little Island’ in Manx, the project has been designed and curated by Alice and features creative responses from artists and writers of all ages, including a series of collaborative postcards which bring together two creative voices on the same piece.

The Biosphere Artist in Residence scheme is hosted by the Manx Wildlife Trust, and supported by the Isle of Man Arts Council in partnership with UNESCO Biosphere Isle of Man and Culture Vannin.
