Afternoon Classics is a series of matinees brought to you in association with Southern Befrienders. Come and enjoy a classic movie, followed by free tea, biscuits and the opportunity for a friendly chat.

With multiple requests from you for Hitchcock and Jimmy Stewart films, Rear Window selected itself for our next Afternoon Classic!

It's a sweltering New York summer and photographer, LB Jeffries (James Stewart) is laid up with a broken leg and unable to leave his apartment. With only two regular visitors, nurse Stella (Thelma Ritter) and his fiancée, Lisa Fremont (Grace Kelly), an elegant model and dress designer, who despairs of ever getting him to commit himself, he begins to observe the lives of his neighbours rather than live inside his own skin. One day, Jeff begins to suspect that a murder may have taken place...
This is a stone-cold masterpiece of filmmaking by a director at the top of his game. Hitchcock made a career out of indulging our voyeuristic tendencies but he never excited them more skilfully, or with more gleeful self-awareness, than in Rear Window.

Free tea and biscuits will be served in EAC Harry's Bar after the film.
