HOW TO KEEP SAFE: Act I
The world can be a scary place when you’re 10 years old, especially when you’re trying to avoid a communist invasion, eternity in Hell and the A bomb exploding in your city, maybe even on your house. 1950s America saw the populace subjected to fear campaigns to heighten their support for developing the H Bomb during the Cold War. The Mc Carthy trials were televised and the phrase The Enemy Within was coined. Has anything changed?  

Catherine has been a teacher, theatre director and writer. She began her acting career at 77 in unHOWsed, about homeless older women at Theatreworks (2019). She directed the award-winning Orphanage of the Animals and is part of Crone Theatre performing at Words in Winter 2025. She began writing How To Keep Safe at 10 years old. Enjoy a performed reading and discussion afterwards.
