Conversations about life, death and dying
Sessions 2026 7 March, 2 May, 4 July, 8 August, 5 September, 7 November
11am-1pm, Northern Arts Hotel, 359 Barker Street, Castlemaine
Good Grief Lounges are monthly conversations and experiences on life, death and dying, interlaced with the healing power of the arts. Grief Counsellors attend the sessions in the relaxing environment of the Northern Arts Hotel.
We begin our year of getting together in the Lounge on Saturday 7 March with 2 special speakers.
Selene Bateman is coming from Melbourne to tell us how she changed her life when she was diagnosed with cancer and how she gathers regularly with friends to sew her shroud.Following her will be East Asian medicine and Ceramic Artist Lisa McPherson who is currently exhibiting her work in a wonderful show called Portal at Lot 19. Her work involves working with people who are dying. This particular aspect of her work has inspired a deeper exploration into the role making art may have as a means of honouring our grief.
Come and join us for an introduction into making a simple clay vessel as a container for our experience of loss and grief. We will provide clay for Lisa to guide you through the experience.

Background:
The Good Grief Lounge is a safe, embracing place to talk about death and dying, to listen, learn and share with people who care in a relaxed environment with music, morning tea and a couple of talks.
The purpose of the events is to inform, reduce fear of end of life, to turn around denial and celebrate death as part of life. This event is a follow-on from the Good Grief events at the 2025 Castlemaine Fringe Festival held monthly on the first Saturday of each month.
Detailed Advance Care Plan booklets are available at the Lounges for $20.
