In this workshop, Craig will explore a practical framework for moving from initial idea through drafting, revision, and completion. He will discuss common challenges writers face, the realities and stages of the writing process, and strategies for building a sustainable writing practice that fits your rhythm and lifestyle. There are more ways to interpret fairy and folk tales than you may think: “Cinderella” is not just about how to entice a prince with dainty feet.
From short stories to novels and even memoirs, fairy tales can be a writer’s inspiration, provide story structure, and use familiar motifs to connect readers to the material. Fairy-tale-influenced writing can be any genre. Participants will use what they learn in a writing exercise. Given a familiar fairy tale and a story alteration as a prompt, you’ll write or plan your own fairy-tale-inspired story. The workshop will wrap up with time to share what you wrote and learned. "description": "Mission StatementThe Eastern Ontario Writers’ Festival (EOWF) is a Canadian unincorporated not-for-profit that exists to support writers through every stage of their journey. We create welcoming spaces where writers, whether they are following the traditional or self-publishing route, can learn, connect, share their stories, and grow in confidence. Through our annual festival, workshops, and scholarship, we help remove barriers and make the writing and publishing world feel more accessible for everyone.Vision StatementWe believe stories bring people together and that every story deserves a chance to reach readers. Our vision is to build a strong, supportive literary community where writers feel encouraged to create, readers can discover new voices, and a shared love of books inspires meaningful connection across Eastern Ontario and beyond."
