- **Event Name**: Werner Wildlife Speaker Series
- **Event Start and End Date**: Tue, 21 Apr, 2026 at 06:00 pm (-06:00)
- **Event Description**: Join us on Tuesday, April 21st at 6:00pm for "Ditch and Meadow, the Power of Bringing Native Plants Home," by Susan Tweit. As part of the National Endowment for the Arts' Big Read, Tweit's talk explores how care for the natural world can lead to a renewal close to home. After deciding "on a whim" to restore an eyesore in her neighborhood - a channelized and trash-filled urban creek and the surrounding decaying industrial property - Tweit discovered the powerful role native plants play in healing landscapes.

In this illustrated talk, Tweit shares photos and stories from her restoration project, along with insights into how indigenous plants help reweave healthy natural communities where we live, work, and play.

This program is held in conjunction with the Natrona County Library and connects directly to "Lab Girl" and the NEA Big Read theme "Our Nature, exploring how attention, patience, and care for the natural world can lead to resilience and renewal."

Participants will come away with a deeper understanding of how local ecosystems function and how small, thoughtful actions can make a meaningful difference close to home.

Susan Tweit is a botanist, award-winning author, and self-described “plant nerd” whose writing bridges science and personal narrative. She is the author of thirteen books spanning memoir, nature writing, and children’s literature. Her memoir "Walking Nature Home: A Life’s Journey"traces her experience navigating a life-threatening autoimmune diagnosis by turning to the natural world as teacher and guide, revealing how love of land, family, and community can foster healing and transformation.

The presentation is free, family-friendly, and open to the public. It will take place in the museum’s Africa-Arctic Room. For more information, call 307-235-2108. The Werner Wildlife Museum, located off the Casper College campus at 405 E. 15th Street, is free and open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
