About the event

Making Art With Natural Materials
Join artist in residence Shelley Watters for a relaxed and intimate afternoon of creative discovery at the Carss Bush Park Artist’s Cottage.

About this Event

Guided by Shelley, participants will begin with a gentle walk through Carss Bush Park, collecting small natural materials such as branches, leaves, sticks, flowers and seed pods. Back at the cottage, you will use your found materials to create unique monotype contact prints and experiment with craft wire to make small, sculptural forms.

Over light refreshments, enjoy an informal conversation with the artist about their creative process and time in residence. Shelley will also demonstrate a lumen print (a camera-less photographic technique developed in the 18th century) and share field recordings gathered during their residency at Carss Bush Park.

This hands-on session offers a thoughtful opportunity to slow down, connect with nature, and explore creative making in a supportive and inspiring setting.

About the artist
Shelley Watters (she/they) is an emerging artist and curator living and working on the unceded lands of the Gadigal and Wangal peoples. Their practice is action-led and often grounded in community contexts, working across installation, sculpture, performance, photo media, textiles, sound and video to explore ideas of entanglement and repair.
